Native Plant Gardening

Native Plant Gardening Workshop
This three hour workshop on gardening with drought-resistant native plants will:
Identify native plants
Review the benefits of native plants
Teach how and where to grow native plants
Offer tips for reducing or eliminating lawns
Inform how to create special natural habitats, such as meadows, thickets, woodlands
Discuss how to attract wildlife to the garden
Include an informative tour of the native plant garden
Review CRD Water Services conservation programs
Instructor: Patricia Johnston, Native Plant & Waterwise consultant.
Each workshop is limited to 18 participants and pre-registration is required.
Workshops are held in the Spring and Fall.

Rhod show and sale

Victoria Rhododendron Society Annual Show and Sale
The VRS Show and Sale is being held this year on April 26 at Glendale Gardens, 505 Quayle Road. Show from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Sale starts at 9:00 am. If you're looking for a hard to find rhodo make sure to come early. Admission to the show is by donation. This year our show and sale is in conjunction with Glendale Garden's sale of perennials

The library’s annual book and magazine sale takes place at the May meeting. Although past sales comprised lots of magazines and a handful of books, this year the sale has a load of books. So, bring your wallet and a lot of change (our books and magazines are very, very cheap) and stock up on some reading.

Pumpkin Smash 2008

Compost Educator Volunteer Training Program (must pre-register)
This two day course covers a wide range of topics including basic backyard composting, worm composting, hot composting, trenching, sheet mulching, organic veggie gardening/soil management . Participants are fully trained in the Centre's outreach procedures and are given a detailed site tour. Cost: $100 deposit, $85 returned after 30 hour practicum. Please contact the Centre for an application form ~ we look forward to having you join our team!
The course is scheduled over two days: Friday evening (5:30-9:30); Saturday all day (9:00-5:00)
The CEP is offered three times through 2008: March 14th and 15thJune 13th and 14thSeptember 12th and 13thMust apply for program. (Contact the Centre for an application form)
Fifth Annual Plant Sale
Date: Saturday, May 10th Time: 10am – 1pm Where: 1216 North Park St, Compost Education Centre Cost: Admission FREE, donations gratefully accepted with proceeds supporting school programs of the Centre.
Prepare yourself for our fifth annual organic plant sale! We will have another large selection of plants including annuals and perennial vegetables, ornamentals, and medicinal and herbal plants. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a greater selection of plants and growers. If you are interested in participating as either a vendor or a volunteer, please contact us at the Centre.
Parking is available at Victoria High School, off Fernwood Rd. We also encourage folks to arrive by foot, bus, and bike – if you can discover an ingenious way to carry home all your plants!
Annual General Meeting 2008
The 2007 Annual General Meeting occurred in April. Participants heard from knowledgeable speakers, won fantastic door prizes, and had the usual great conversation and refreshments to tantalize the palate. Please check back for information on 2008's AGM.
